Abstract

Today, the logistics performance of countries to achieve sustainable development has received serious attention. The creation of trade corridors and the improvement of transportation infrastructure have been among the important objectives of some countries in recent years, which will determine the geography of development in the coming years and will make some other countries face the challenge of economic isolation. This study has investigated the role of logistics performance on sustainable development (which is a composite index that shows the development of countries in different areas) in emerging countries including Iran, using the tools of econometric knowledge. The present study was conducted with the spatial panel approach (SDM and SAR methods) so that the spatial effects of the variables on the neighboring countries are also considered. The results indicate that logistics performance in both models has a positive and significant effect on the sustainable development of countries. Also, improving logistics performance has had a positive impact on the sustainable development of neighboring countries. Therefore, joint investments to improve commercial and transportation infrastructure, such as the creation of various commercial corridors, are serious recommendations of this study. Also, this study shows that economic freedom, good governance, increasing the share of spending on education and health have a positive and significant effect, and population density and abundance of natural resources have a negative and significant effect on sustainable development. This study has important recommendations for economic policy makers in order to achieve sustainable development.
