Abstract

One of the most important challenges of the global economy is corruption, which has affected the development prospects of countries, and it can be mentioned as one of the most important obstacles to the development of countries, at the national and international level. Corruption is affected by several factors, such as innovation, country size, government activity volume, human capital, degree of commercial openness, rent of natural resources, etc. The important point in this context is that corruption is contagious and is affected by the conditions of nearby and related places. The extent and spread of corruption in a country affects the adjacent and related areas in different ways. The aim of the current research is to investigate the convergence of factors affecting the spread of corruption in selected Islamic countries with a dynamic spatial panel approach, in the time period of 2008-2022. The results indicate the confirmation of spatial proximity effects. But the speed of convergence is low and is equal to 0.052 on average. Among other results, we can point to the direct and indirect negative effects of innovation on the spread of corruption in selected Islamic countries..
