Abstract

Abstract: Today, Iran is facing the issue of economic sanctions. These sanctions have been imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran by various institutions and countries around the world since 1979. Economic sanctions have affected large parts of the Iranian economy and have created new conditions in the economic body of the Islamic Republic of Iran. One of the places of effect of sanctions on the flow of trade cycles of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The purpose of this article is to investigate the impact of economic sanctions on the flow of business cycles in Iran. In order to quantify the effect of economic sanctions, the economic sanctions index was calculated. In order to obtain this index, 20 activists and experts in the field of sanctions economics were referred to; their opinions were collected using fuzzy questionnaires. Then, using fuzzy logic in MATLAB software space, the economic sanctions index for the period 1979-2022 was calculated. Then, using the Sanctions Index, the impact of economic sanctions on the flow of business cycles was examined using the self-regression method in the period 1979-2022 and in the eviews software space. The results show that the economic sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran have led to a deepening economic recession and prolonged periods of recession in the Iranian economy.
